Artist Interview:
Why do you make the art that you make?
RG: Compulsion and opportunity.
What inspires your work the most?
RG: History is my muse. For now.
When you’re creating new work, what is your general process?
RG: Begin, and try not to destroy the best ideas. How has your work evolved in recent years?
RG: With practice comes failures and with failures comes confidence. I’m feeling some success and my failures are not a problem.
Describe your studio.
RG: A place where my immigrant self-sufficient tendencies are on full display.
What is your personal and/or artistic background?
RG: That’s too deep for right now.
What has been a seminal experience for you as an artist?
RG: Finding and loving LSD.
What other artists or artworks inspire you?
RG: All of them, but for certain surrealists.
What are your thoughts on being an artist in today’s world?
RG: A life of privilege, and a great burden.
How do you deal with creativity blocks?
RG: Be patient.
What are your hopes for the future?
RG: Equanimity.
Where can people find you when you’re not making art?
RG: Designing.
